In a case that has sent ripples of indignation through the local community, a missing pet’s disappearance turned into a nightmare of “unbelievable” cruelty before ending in a miraculous rescue. On April 15, the Nebraska Humane Society (NHS) revealed the harrowing details regarding Leo, a small dog found bound with duct tape and discarded in a dumpster like common refuse.
Responding officer Kevin Wiederin, a veteran of animal welfare, described a scene of systematic abuse. Leo’s entire head was encased in duct tape, covering his muzzle and eyes. His front and back legs were taped together, his tail was bound, and his fur was matted with “food and other debris.”

“I have never seen anything like it,” Wiederin told KETV. “I was absolutely sickened. It was the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen. I can’t imagine doing that to another living being, let alone a helpless little dog and then just throwing it away like trash.”
